Grit, spark, light: the stuff of success in business


Success in business does not happen overnight.  


If you’re in business or thinking of setting up one, you will need more than just the knowledge of the product or service that you’re offering. You also have to have the grit, passion and perseverance to pull your enterprise through.


There is power in grit. Grit ignites the passion that helps you navigate the ins and outs of business.


But do not credit us yet for the entrep pep-talk. All these came from the experience of successful businessman, Ed Dizon, a happy owner of a Hyundai H-100.



Ed Dizon owns MTM, a lights and sounds rental service that employs over 40 people and can service up to 13 clients or events in a day. Ed has served both local and international clients, going as far as Dubai. From product launches, product exhibits, concerts, theatrical productions, and television shows, Ed is relentless in doing business. He credits his success to the passion that he has for his work which drove him to scale MTM to where it is today.


Ed remembers, “Before, our business ran only on weekends but we were able to grow na minsan wala nang tulog, minsan pagkagaling sa event, derecho na naman sa isang event, tapos maghahatid ka naman sa isang event. That is what I am saying kung ‘yan ang passion mo hindi ka mapapagod kasi na-eenjoy mo yung work mo. I think ‘pag papasok ka sa negosyo, iyon talaga ang hilig mo kasi hindi mo hahanapin yung kikita ka ba ng malaki o kikita ka ng maliit. Dito pag hilig mo, hindi mo iintindihin na kumita ka ng malaki kasi nae-enjoy mo. Work ka lang ng work, and you will notice someone will recognize you. Iyon ang mag-aangat sa iyo”.


It’s Showtime!


Ed used to be a hotel disco DJ when street parties were all the rage in the 1990s. He then went on to study the technical and business aspects of lights and sounds equipment. The next phase of his life eventually rolled into place.


Things didn’t come easy. In the early days of MTM, Ed would take the jeepney to transport his equipment to events. “Pinasok namin ang business para mag-enjoy, may mga street parties, debut, at birthday lang. As time went by na-recommend na kami sa mga city halls, doon nagtuloy na sa may corporate events at concerts. At ngayon, nauso na yung weddings (pre-nuptial videos). So, thank God….na kahit papaano na ang business namin umangat talaga”.


Hyundai is in the Heart


As a kid, Ed collected die-cast cars and gushes about how car designs evolve and inspire one another. The childhood hobby led to an appreciation of Hyundai’s European-inspired design. He was already a proud owner of an Accent which he uses for city-driving, a Tucson for out of towners, and a Starex for family trips. His older service truck is of another brand because, back then, he was not aware of the Hyundai H-100. But once he got wind of the H-100’s bigger capacity, fuel-efficient diesel engine and sturdy body, he knew that he had to buy not one but two, convinced of the Hyundai H-100’s comfortable and agile handling. Having a great experience with his purchases, he recently bought a Hyundai wing van from Hyundai Trucks and Buses Alabang.
