Ushering Brilliant Breakthroughs with Hyundai at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2016

 

Car enthusiasts dream of driving the most iconic cars in their lifetime, but car innovators dream of designing and building cars that will be remembered for several lifetimes; cars that are energy-efficient and environment-friendly, and cars that make a difference. To pave the way for these breakthroughs, Hyundai is sharing the stage with Shell anew through the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2016. 

  

Hyundai, the official mobility partner of Shell Eco-Marathon Asia, is proud to stand alongside Shell for the third straight year, sharing the values of the program that encourages students from all parts of the globe to build the most energy-efficient cars. Shell Eco-marathon is a competition that celebrates ideas and innovation, the best up and coming engineers, designers and inventors, and cutting-edge thinking about energy and mobility. 

  

Breathe Easy

One of the challenges in our environment today is keeping our air breathable to its purest form.  To help solve air pollution, the European Union has been rolling out the European emission standards. In the Philippines, the Euro 4 emission standard, an upgrade from the previous Euro 2 standard, has been implemented since the beginning of the year. 

  

Euro 4 fuels have 10 times less sulfur content compared to Euro 2 fuels, and are thus 10 times cleaner. According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), vehicle emissions comprise 70% to 80% of air pollution in Metro Manila, and with the Euro 4 standard, citizens can be more confident to breathe easier.

  

As a brand dedicated to innovation, Hyundai has followed suit and made its vehicles Euro 4-compliant, headlined by the All-new Elantra, which will also be on display during the event. 

  

Rising Again

After the previous-generation Elantra was named Car of the Year in 2012, the sixth generation Elantra looks to build on this heritage while introducing an evolved, dynamic appearance with distinguished performance features. 

  

Up front, one of the Elantra’s bold changes is the large hexagonal grille that gives it an active stance also notable on other Hyundai cars. The roof of the Elantra flows back to the trunk almost seamlessly, with unembellished sides and understated shoulders, creating a smooth design for more precise aerodynamics. 

  

The All-new Elantra is 20 millimeters longer and 25 millimeters wider than the previous Elantra to provide better passenger comfort through a bigger cabin space. The body structure has also improved in durability and rigidity—with an impressive 53% Advanced High Strength Steel coverage, or 32% higher compared to the old model.

  

The top-of-the-line variant comes with a Nu 2.0 MPI engine that is, of course, EURO 4-ready with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Other variants use a Gamma 1.6 MPI engine (EURO 4) with choices of either 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.
